Loneliness by Marian Cooke, Ageless Project 2017

When your feeling lonely and the darkness comes to stay

When it’s hard to lift your thought above the navy blues and grey;

Just try and give yourself a treat and pause a little while

And gather in those lonely thoughts and wrap them in a smile;

Think about the rainbow with its promise, or some ducks waddling to a pool

A baby gurgling in the got and laughing children on their way to school;

Something that you once heard or read that filled your heart with pride

That will chase away that loneliness and warm you up inside

It’s not an easy exercise to lift a load of care and not give in to sorrow

But build high your hopes and dream your dreams and you can make a bright tomorrow.

Obesity in th UK

Tackling obesity is one of the greatest long-term health challenges currently faced in England.

Tackling obesity is one of the greatest long-term health challenges currently faced in England. Around two-thirds (63%) of adults are above a healthy weight, and of these half are living with obesity. In England 1 in 3 children leaving primary school are overweight or living with obesity with 1 in 5 living with obesity.

Obesity prevalence is highest amongst the most deprived groups in society. Children in the most deprived parts of the country are more than twice as likely to be obese than those living in the least deprived areas.

Obesity is associated with reduced life expectancy and a range of health conditions including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver and respiratory disease and cancer. Obesity can also have an impact on mental health.

The Buzz – “neurodiverse” people covers a wide spectrum of hidden neurological conditions

I wanted to draw attention to the fact that almost certainly if you work with community groups you will come/have come across “neurodiverse” people covering a wide spectrum of hidden neurological conditions such as but not limited to Autism Spectrum, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Tourette’s and social anxiety. For some people, their neurodiversity can mean that they are better at some things than many other people and for others additional support or adjustments are required.
