Food, Me and Family

We offer an 4 week taster course so that learners can learn if they are making the healthiest choices for themselves and their family.

This includes discussion about people being over weight  and the sharing of  facts such as The North East Strategic Health Authority (SHA) had the highest rate of admissions with a primary diagnosis of obesity (56 admissions per 100,000 population.

We need people to understand what obese means as many parents don’t recognise their children are obese because many of them are obese themselves.

Obesity is the new normal and with nearly one-third of children aged two to 15 classed as overweight or obese, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health estimates that the problem is costing the NHS around £5.1bn a year.

The learner will gain more understanding about food politics, portion sizes as well as sitting less and moving more.
