Why is Personal Development Important?

Personal Development helps bring understanding, acceptance and sometimes even healing which can change our attitudes and behaviour strengthening our ability to build positive relationships with others.

As we develop our mental and emotional health it will also help us make better decisions about who we want in our lives.

The 5 areas of Personal Development

  • Mental Development. Some examples are taking a class, reading a book, or watching an informational YouTube video to improve your skills. By setting aside some time each day, or each week, you can see growth in your career, increased productivity, and so much more.
  • Social Development. This is all about improving your communication and often the most overlooked. Examples include learning a new language or committing to doing more active listening are all activities that can help with social personal development.
  • Spiritual personal development. This can mean something different for each person, but he best description it is anything that brings you peace and helps you connect to your true self, such as a nature walk or meditating.
  • Emotional personal development. Many people hold in their emotions, or brush them off, only makes it worse when they finally do come out. Examples of what you can do to improve your emotional health include tracking your mood, talking to a friend, or even a counselor.
  • Physical personal development This is about a lot more than exercise. Eating and sleeping habits need addressing, as well as physical activity. Creating healthier habits around exercise, healthy eating, and sleep you will be on your way to be your best physical self.
